This week has been a whirlwind of news and controversy around American downhill racer Aaron Gwin. First it was announced early this week that he would be riding for Specialized for the 2013 season instead of Trek World Racing. Once the shock of that wore off another announcement came from Martin Whiteley of Trek World Racing saying that Gwin breached his contract with TWR and they were perusing legal action. When you’re the best downhiller on the planet there is going to be a fight to keep you on their team.
There have also been a couple of other interesting articles published on Gwin. One that was published on Pink Bike by Matt Wragg that talks about the highs and lows of downhill racers and how Gwin trying to get the most of out this moment isn’t that hard to understand. Bike Mag also has a great interview article with Craig “Stikman” Glaspell about Gwin signing with Troy Lee Designs.
Finally Aaron takes the matter into his own hands and has published a public statement on this own site explaining that he did not break his contract.
Update 1/13/13: Even more news on PinkBike with lengthy interviews of Martin Whiteley, Trek, and Sean Heimdal on the topic.
